Edgar Cristhian Aispuro Malfavaun’s story is one of struggle, resilience, and unexpected twists. At the age of 13, he left Mexico for the United States to support his family. Working tirelessly, he sent his earnings back home to help his mother and siblings. Eventually, his family also emigrated to California, where Edgar spent nearly 26 years. However, his life took a dark turn when he became entangled in California’s legal system due to a domestic violence incident. Despite his lack of knowledge, he accepted a plea deal that led to probation and mandatory domestic violence classes. Unfortunately, missing just one class per month triggered a violation of his probation, resulting in 30 days in county jail. Edgar’s troubles escalated when he encountered immigration authorities. Deported to Mexico for five years due to his lack of legal papers, he returned to the U.S., only to face repeated failures, jail time, and immigration issues and deported three times for the same crime.
