María Camila is a person in transit originally from Colombia. In her narrative, she describes her family’s migration to Mexico, the adversities she faced with immigration authorities such as the National Institute of Migration, the colluding institutions, and the crucial role that smugglers play in illegal migration to the U.S. After arriving at the border, she recounts how only her son was able to cross into the U.S., the numerous conflicts with authorities, and the support from some organizations during her asylum process.
