María is from Venezuela. Together with her husband and their one-year-old baby, she lived for six months in Ecuador, and then, from Peru, they began a journey with the desire to reach the United States. In her narrative, she speaks of two moments of great suffering for the family. The first was crossing the jungle of Panama, where they encountered many people in the same situation. She describes the great risks of that journey, due to the rivers they had to cross. However, it was the crossing into Mexico that she considers the main challenge, due to the numerous groups that take advantage of them and charge fees to move from one stretch to another. María wonders if the United States is really a wonderful place and if it is as it is portrayed.
