Julie came to the United States from Chiapas, Mexico, when she was almost 2 years old. In the United States, she was able to get better healthcare and education thanks to her mother’s sacrifice. At 16, she was granted DACA and pushed herself through college, even while facing many obstacles, one of them being threats during the Trump era. Her mother survived a violent attack, leading them to apply for the U Visa, which eventually gave them the opportunity to get permanent residency. Now, after years of struggle, Julie is healing and reconnecting with her roots.
