María was an asylum seeker with the United States Government, she was displaced because of the crisis of violence and insecurity in Ciudad Juarez during the War on Drugs (2007-2012). As an asylum seeker she remained in immigration detention, was criminalized and separated from her family, her case was not resolved and she signed her deportation.
