Jaqueline, from Acapulco, left with her husband and two daughters because of violence: the cartels were demanding “cuota” (extortion/protection payments) from her small business and from her husband’s construction job. In addition, two hurricanes destroyed their home and they lost everything. They arrived at the shelter with no money; they received help and, although they missed their appointment in the app, they are still seeking to go to the U.S. for their daughters’ safety.
