101. The Adversities of a Cross-Border Family

“But the time I was separated from my daughters had a profound effect on my middle daughter who became depressed. And due to her depression, I tried to cross back to the US a false document. For that they deported me and gave me a five year punishment. Later I found out that I could have applied for a humanitarian visa but they are for four days only, which would have been very little time. And their dad told me it would be sadder for them if I was there for four days only to have to leave again, and that’s why I decided to live out the five year punishment, and then apply for a border crossing card and ask for a pardon.”
