Detained along with her son in a migrant center for minors in the State of Mexico, Ana speaks with great sorrow about the reasons that led her to embark on a journey from Ecuador to Nicaragua and then, overland, through Honduras, Guatemala, and southern Mexico. Due to both economic issues and domestic violence she experienced, including death threats from her ex-partner, she made the decision to leave her four small children and flee with her sixteen-year-old son to New York, where she has family. She hopes to work there to pay off the twenty-thousand-dollar debt she incurred to make such a long journey.
