With a waiting number given to him by CBP for his interview as an asylum applicant in El Paso, Texas, El Vato describes his journey from Honduras, through Mexico, to Ciudad Juárez, as well as the reasons why he abandoned Honduras in the middle of an economic crisis and perennial unemployment, he and his family decided to head to Houston, where his brother lives, hoping for a better life for his son.

“If they don’t give me asylum, I don’t know… what I’ve heard is that they deport you to Honduras at once… well, I’m going to come back, I’m not going back there, because sometimes I feel discouraged… and they tell you that she’s the one who’s going to be able to pass… in Honduras there’s nothing to do.”
