Dayana is a transgender woman originally from Central America. She migrated from her country of origin due to persecution by organized crime networks and the Maras Salvatruchas, who kidnapped and physically abused her. During her journey through Guatemala and Mexico, she suffered discrimination and harassment from the police of those countries. Sometime later, as a refugee in Mexico, she moved from Tapachula to Tijuana and took refuge in the shelter “The Butterfly Garden” in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.
