A Nicaraguan migrant fleeing the repressive Ortega-Murillo regime arrives at the Otay border in Tijuana hoping to apply for asylum. He is allowed to pursue his case only through the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) program that requires him to wait out his court process in Mexico. He finds this highly upsetting as migrants are routinely mistreated in Mexico, where they are also exposed to extortion, kidnapping and worse.
