Veronica Castro Ledezma, originally from Zapopan Jalisco, Mexico, immigrated to the United States in 1998 as an undocumented individual. Her husband enlisted in the armed forces in 2009, hoping to stabilize their family’s situation and legalize their immigration status. However, due to her entry status, Veronica couldn’t legalize her immigration status, despite efforts through military family resources like parole in place, resulting in humiliation and monitoring by immigration authorities. Veronica faces uncertainty about returning to the US for her son’s upcoming surgery. Despite the challenges, Veronica remains hopeful of returning to the US, but the years of disappointment have taken a toll on her resilience and well-being.
